Jakob Urban (*1997 in Brussels, Belgium) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work is rooted in conceptual and research-based practices. His projects develop as a response both to the site and context they are exhibited in as well as current socio-political issues that shape our societal structures. For this he uses varying communication strategies that position themselves as signs, signifiers and display structures; adding, subtracting and layering meaning as a way of producing art as a sensory experience, playfully queering form, material, narrative(s) and (historical) references. The work often unfolds spatially in the form of installations and performances using found objects, built structures, printed matter, video and sculptural elements.

Jakob Urban lives and works between Berlin (DE) and Brussels (BE), he has worked in projects at a.o. Stiftung Kalk Gestalten, KUNSTRAUM Potsdamer Straße, ortstermin Moabit, ABRACADABRA Institute, Akademie der Künste Berlin, artspring Festival, Kunstquartier Bethanien, MALL ANDERS, roam space, 48H Neukölln, Sound Thought Glasgow, Kulturfabrik Moabit, Kulturwerk Berlin, Centre Culturel du Crous de Paris, Post Post Cultural.
